What is the best part about working for SwimWest every day?
The best part is working with the kids and families. It is not lost on me how lucky I am to have this opportunity. Everyday I get to say that I had some part in teaching a child a lifesaving skill. I am honored, along with our staff, to be able to provide that to the community.
What do you believe makes you a great General Manager?
I am a good listener and I love asking questions. People fascinate me and I love finding those things that make us similar instead of what makes us different.
Share a childhood memory about your experience with swim lessons.
My swim lessons were at Lake Michigan growing up. I am lucky to have had such a “strict” teacher. This has allowed me to have a healthy “fear” of the water and a greater understanding of the importance of water safety.
What favorite memory do you have from working at Swim West?
During my training I had a chance to co-teach an adult class. It completely changed something inside me. To see someone, closer to my age, start the class terrified of the water but then come out smiling and full of confidence just 30 minutes later was mind blowing. It truly opened me up to the potential of this job and what we can provide to the people of my community.
Share a childhood memory when you were brave and overcame fear.
I somehow was the lead in my school play in 5th grade. I was terrified, but I remember my Mom telling me to pretend I was in my room, doing my lines in front of the mirror and forget the crowd in front of me. That didn’t completely work, but I did overcome my fear and finished the play with little issue.
