The cooler weather is (slowly) rolling into our slice of Wisconsin, and skeletons and pumpkins are making their appearance in yards all over town. Fall is here! Madison hosts a ton of fall-themed activities and is home to more than its fair share of seasonal farms, orchards, pumpkin patches and corn mazes. In short? You could pick a new place to try every weekend all fall long!
One of my family’s favorite things to do is pick apples (and eat apple donuts, obviously) and bring them home to use in applesauce, apple pie and apple crisp! Most local orchards offer pick your own as well as pre-bagged selections. Here is a link to one of my favorite (incredibly easy) crockpot applesauce recipes!
Beyond apples, fall is all about pumpkins. My kids love to visit farms that offer wagon rides into a giant pumpkin patch, and they especially like to choose the absolute biggest pumpkin they can carry. Tip: if your kids like to go for biggest pumpkins like mine, look at farms that let you get any sized pumpkin for the same price.
If you’re looking for pumpkin patches or orchards, check out this list from our friends at MadisonMom.com. They have a run-down of all the area destinations, complete with links to get more information. Older kids will especially love the corn mazes at Treinen’s and Schusters – and don’t miss the giant slides at Enchanted Valley Acres!
